Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study on certain biological and production characteristics of the Rhine Riesling wine variety in the Nis wine- growing region. The research was carried out in the collection vineyard of the “Centre for Viticulture and Oenology” in Nis. During the study period, climatic conditions were favourable for the expression of the biological and production traits of Rhine Riesling variety. Yield level and its year-to-year variation indicate high and stable productivity of the evaluated variety. The sugar content in grape must was 20.52%, while total acidity was 8.98 g/L. Chemical analysis of the wine showed that the obtained Rhine Riesling wine was of good quality. Alcohol content ranged from 12.07 to 12.80% vol. The wine received a sensory score of 76 points. The results confirm the suitability of the Nis wine-growing region for cultivating Rhine Riesling.
